Direct Support Professional (DSP) Position

To maintain our high standards of direct support professionals, TAIG has partnered with the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation and Career Link to recruit potential employees who not only have caring skills, but will respect and value the people we serve. TAIG provides the new hire with over 40 hours of paid training; and each year thereafter, employees receive 24 hours of training to develop and maintain their professional skills.

Duties as a Direct Support Professional (DSP)

  • On an average, the ratio is one DSP to 2 or 3 consumers. However, some consumers receive one to one care.
  • Major responsibility is to provide care, assistance, and training to people with mental and physical disabilities and to ensure their safety and well being.
  • Examples of duties include:
    • Preparing meals, taking individuals on outings, sharing activities and learning experiences, housekeeping/housework, cleaning out his/her refrigerator, making beds, laundry, grooming, bathing, and toileting, whatever is required to fully care for and support the individual.


Work Locations

  • TAIG’s consumer residences are located in four general areas of Philadelphia: Far Northeast, Northeast, Southwest, and Northwest Philadelphia.
  • There are also employment positions in the Day Program Services at 4700 Wissahickon Avenue.
  • All the work locations are easily accessible by public transportation.


Work Schedules

  • TAIG has flexible work schedules and will work with you to find a suitable work schedule.
  • TAIG’s work locations are served by these basic shift schedules:

    Monday 3 PM – 9 AM Tuesday 3 PM – 9 AM
    Wednesday 3 PM – 9 AM Thursday 3 PM – 9 AM
    Saturday 9 AM – 9 AM Sunday 9 AM – 9 AM

Pre-Employment Criteria

The successful candidate for the Direct Support Professional position will:

  • Be 18 Years or Older and have a High School Degree or GED
  • Provide proof of identity and proof of employment eligibility
  • Pass a drug test
  • Have a valid drivers license (preferred, but not required)
  • Pass a basic Reading, Writing and Math Test

Candidates are required to take the following tests in compliance with PA State Regulatory Licensing:

  • Physical Examination
  • Criminal History Check
  • Child Abuse History Check
